Influenced by the Retreat of 2001 |
Many of my new paintings
were directly influenced by a magical little "Artist Retreat"
I took with 3 other women last August for two nights and two
days in Wisconsin. I found myself in a glorious place, Lake Michigan
and the beach just steps outside our door and farm fields just
minutes down the road, the temperature a perfect 72 degrees,
and in the company of 3 other positive and highly creative beings...
a very different setting from my urban neighborhood and solitary
studio where I work without the feedback & insight of other
artists around me.
What I experienced
in those 48 hours has stayed with me and is evident in my work
today - I now keep a Sketch Book Journal that I use to record
ideas or thoughts or to fully develop compositional ideas each
day. We painted in the farm fields and around a still life, an
academic way of working that I have not done since high school,
I began with high anxiety but soon found it to be refreshing
and fun to work from life in my own comfortable style...anyone
who has come to my studio in the last 8 months has been shown
the paintings & drawings I did sitting in that farm field
at the top of a "T" where 2 roads met ... Click
here to see them in detail...

I also show the still life studies done
indoors - the drawings I did that night keep recreating themselves
in different ways...Click here to see
them in detail...

I do not plan to abandon
my beloved dog paintings or my cityscapes or dream flyers.. I
have just expanded my horizon a bit..and the color RED has also been creeping into my work, I can't wait
to see what happens next.... |
